Did you know that thousands of families homeschool all the way through high school graduation? Some homeschool parents choose to send their children to a public or private school after homeschooling them for years. Typically, they do not realize that it is not only possible but can be very beneficial to homeschool their high school students. Here are a few of the many reasons why parents should consider homeschooling through high school.

1. More opportunities
Homeschooled high schoolers will have more flexible schedules and more time to find a job, helping them learn skills in the real world and save money for their future. It also provides students with the opportunity to learn new skills or pursue something they are passionate about.
Additionally, becoming part of an internship or mentorship is much more realistic for students homeschooled during high school and can help them determine their skills and strengths, preparing them for college or a job and saving time and money in the future. All of these provide valuable life experience that public and private schools often cannot provide.
2. More flexibility
Homeschooling through high school gives students more flexibility with the curriculum they choose and what they choose to study. They are able to learn about different career fields and gain skills that would have been difficult otherwise. There is also more flexibility with subjects. If your child is scientifically-minded, they can spend more time on science and math, while if they are more creative, they can learn skills and grow in that area.
Homeschooling also provides an opportunity to strengthen weaker skills because there is more time to do so, and homeschooling parents are able to devote more time to helping their child through difficult skills and subjects.
3. Learning life skills
Whether your child goes to college or not, there are certain life skills that they will need to know. This could include cooking, managing finances, and cleaning. These skills will likely be used by your student more than most of the subjects they are being taught.
Homeschooling your child through high school gives you the opportunity to teach them any skills they will need for the future, instead of sending them out on their own not knowing how to take care of themselves. Additionally, homeschooling gives students an advantage in learning essential character traits, such as self-motivation, discipline, and responsibility, in the low-risk environment of their home.
4. More time with your child
Homeschooling your child through the high school years will give you more time with your child before they move out on their own. Much of the time that they would spend at school can be spent with family instead.
The high school years are formative, and it is important for your child to have the opportunity to learn from you. Homeschooling through high school allows you to pass on important values before your child faces the views of the world, giving you the opportunity to prepare them to launch successfully.
5. It provides a head start
Homeschooled high schoolers are able to tailor their education to give them a head start on the skills, classes, and knowledge they will need before starting their future career. For example, there are options such as dual enrollment, which can be beneficial for homeschool students looking to go to college but wanting a less expensive and faster way to complete their studies.
You can homeschool through high school, and there are many reasons to do so. Homeschooling your child during high school gives them more flexibility and opportunity as well as giving you the chance to pour into them in the final years before they become an adult.
