“And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14b
Dear Homeschool Families,
For nearly 40 years, OCEANetwork has been standing watch over homeschool freedom in Oregon. From our beginnings in 1986 to today, God has faithfully equipped our organization and the homeschool families we represent for each season — and we believe He has positioned us for such a time as this.
As we look across the nation, we see growing scrutiny toward homeschooling, more attempts at regulation, and the rise of government funding programs that threaten the freedoms of independent homeschoolers. We cannot remain silent.
The Lord is calling us to move forward with wisdom, courage, and faith. Like Esther, we believe God has placed OCEANetwork here for such a time as this. He has given us the charge to stand for homeschool freedom, support parents, and preserve the right of families to educate their children according to their convictions.
Looking Ahead
In response, OCEANetwork is preparing. We’re strengthening our Freedom Watch Team, deepening relationships with like-minded organizations, and investing time to educate and equip the next generation of volunteers who will carry this vital work forward.
We’re also excited about plans we have for implementing new ways to:
- Keep Oregon homeschoolers up to date on freedom-related issues
- Continue building a community of freedom-minded families
- Cast a clear vision for homeschool freedom and family discipleship
- Equip and encourage families on their homeschool journey
What about the conference? At this time, we don’t have the available full-time event volunteers needed for an event of that scale, but we remain open to God’s leading. As stewards of the resources with which we’ve been entrusted, we are also still evaluating whether the conference is the best use of both our volunteers and finances.
Lord willing, we’ll continue to host Apple Pie Day and Capitol Day, which are essential opportunities for promoting homeschool freedom. We’re also encouraging local support groups to host events and exploring regional gatherings and online webinars to keep families informed and encouraged.
In the meantime, don’t forget to take advantage of our many helpful online resources, such as:
- The Getting Started Homeschooling video series
- Conference recordings available online
- The Start Strong Oregon course (discounted for OCEANetwork members)

Standing Watch and Casting the Vision
Will you pray with us as we continue to watch and prepare for the future? The Lord is in control! Pray for guidance and favor as we follow His leading, effectiveness in our efforts to protect homeschool freedoms, and that the Lord would raise up a new wave of volunteers and leaders that will carry the vision forward in the years to come.
Another important issue to pray for is that of government funding for homeschoolers. Please pray that we would be able to effectively educate Oregon families on why it’s so important to preserve independent homeschooling. (We encourage you to share about this with your homeschooling friends, too! Find talking points at oceanetwork.org/government-funding.)
