SUMMARY:Creation Mysteries of the Gorge
DESCRIPTION:On this favorite family outing we take several short hikes\, and collect cobbles transported 400 miles by Noah’s Flood and find petrified wood. In some places the wood is only charcoaled and we can light it on fire\, though it is claimed to be 15-16 million years old! On this trip students will handle “rock solid” evidence for a young earth and a global Flood as we discuss its importance for our faith and our confidence in the historical accuracy of scriptures. Along the way we encounter a variety of flowers and other amazing plants and animals that defy evolution. \n \nWe will meet at 9:00 am between Starbucks and Hood River Inn near the Hood River Bridge. We will give out a fieldbook with helpful info and have a short introduction. Our route will take us across the Hood River Bridge and about 20 miles with 4 or 5 stops and short hikes on the Washington side. More helpful details and reminders will be sent a week or so before the trip.

SUMMARY:Kids Biblical Paleontology Day Camp
DESCRIPTION:Prepare for a day of discovery and bring your questions! How are fossils formed? Where have scientists historically found them? What are the differences between trace fossils and preserved remains? And what are the errors with fossil dating systems? \n\n\nGet ready for a fascinating adventure into God’s Word here at the farm as we discover the truth about the amazing ‘pre-historic’ creatures\, aka ‘beasts of the earth’ that God made right along-side Adam and Eve! \n“Look now at the behemoth\, which I made along with you; He eats grass like an ox. See now\, his strength is in his hips\, And his power is in his stomach muscles. He moves his tail like a cedar; The sinews of his thighs are tightly knit. His bones are like beams of bronze\, His ribs like bars of iron. He is the first of the ways of God; Only He who made him can bring near His sword[meaning only his Creator can threaten it]…Indeed the river may rage\, Yet he is not disturbed; He is confident\, though the Jordan gushes into his mouth\, Though he takes it in his eyes\, Or one pierces his nose with a snare. [No one can capture it by the eyes\, or trap it by piercing its nose] \n– Job 40:15-19\, 23-24 NKJV \nWe’ll also examine the fossil evidence that the ‘beasts of the earth’\, dinosaurs\, ‘behemoth’ and ‘every thing that creepeth upon the earth’ was made after its kind\, just as the Bible states …. not by random chance and mutation. \nAnd God made the beast of the earth after his kind… and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. …And God saw every thing that he had made\, and\, behold\, it was very good.  \n – Genesis 1:25\,31 KJV \nAnd we’ll discover how shellfish and marine fossils were embedded on the highest mountain tops around the world and why dinosaur remains are found near the north pole! \nHow are fossils formed? Where have scientists historically found them? What are the differences between trace fossils and preserved remains? How do secular scientists determine the age of fossils? And what are the errors with these dating systems? \nYou’ll learn how to make your own petrified pickle! And what that implies(!) \nLastly we will experience a full-scale dino dig site\, unearthing evidence of the Flood of Noah and behemoth in our back yard\, and comparing our size to his!  \nBring your Paleontology tools\, including trowels\, buckets\, brushes and such. A picnic lunch and picnic blanket. Dress for the weather\, whether hats or raincoats – we’ll get our hands dirty\, be encouraged by the reliability of God’s Word and have a TON of fun!

SUMMARY:Gutenberg College's Annual Education Conference
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Gutenberg College’s Annual Education Conference! \nThis August 8-9\, we are pleased to invite K-12 teachers\, school administrators\, and homeschooling parents to Gutenberg College’s Annual Education Conference in Eugene\, Oregon. Every year\, we gather in the beautiful Pacific Northwest for fellowship to thoughtfully consider what it means to educate students within a Biblical worldview.  \nWhat’s the theme of this year’s conference? \nThis year\, we are delighted to welcome some of America’s finest classical educators from the CiRCE Institute (Heidi White & Matt Bianco) and Classical Conversations (Diane Gray) to join us as we explore the theme Teacher as Mentor.  \nModern education often presents teachers as specialists tasked with imparting expert knowledge to students. Yet\, by primarily imparting facts and information\, a specialist’s focus too often becomes overly narrow and overlooks the development of the whole student. This kind of oversight can leave a graduate with major blind spots in his or her understanding and outlook. By contrast\, the teacher as mentor embraces the project of delivering more than subject-specific content and works to cultivate the moral\, spiritual\, and intellectual health of the whole student. In this education conference\, we will explore the nature and practices of mentorship in pursuit of equipping students with tools\, skills\, and wisdom to live faithfully before God. We invite you to join us this August for food\, fellowship\, and meaningful discussion as we explore what it means to mentor our students.  \nWhat should I expect from a Gutenberg conference?  \nIf this is your first Gutenberg conference\, we welcome you! We eat meals together\, discuss together\, and learn together. Gutenberg conferences are intimate and personal with lots of opportunity to interact\, ask questions\, and make progress in your own learning. Discussion and open dialogue are central to our approach as we work together to discover meaning\, truth\, and goodness from a Biblical perspective. Our desire is for all who attend to grow in spiritual\, intellectual\, and emotional depth. \nTeen track coming soon:  \nWe are in the process of finalizing our teen track portion of the conference. Be on the lookout for more information.  \nWhat does it cost? \n\nDiscounted Early Bird registration is open until June 15. \nFull conference: $130 (Individual); $225 (Family); $60 (Student) \nGroups: $125 each (5 or more); $110 each (10 or more); $100 each (20 or more)\n\nOur desire is that costs never prevent a guest from attending. If you want to attend\, but have budgetary restrictions\, we’d love to help you figure out a way to join us. Contact office@gutenberg.edu for opportunities to volunteer at a reduced rate. \nTo learn more\, visit: https://gutenberg.edu/events/education-conference/ \nWe hope you can join us!  \nWarmest regards\,

SUMMARY:Oregon Christian Home Education Conference
DESCRIPTION:2022 Homeschool Conference Information\n\n\n\nWe’re looking forward to gathering once again \,Lord willing\, at the 2022 OCEANetwork Conference June 17 and 18\, 2022! There’s nothing quite as encouraging as gathering with hundreds of homeschool families to hear inspiring speakers\, view homeschool materials frst-hand\, and rub shoulders with others on the same journey. \nWe’ve reserved the Linn County Fair Grounds in Albany again this year. The facilities are very family-friendly. Popular conference speakers Bill Jack and Hal and Melanie Young have agreed to be there. Additional speakers are being confirmed. \nOf course\, like everything for the last few years\, the conference is tentative at this point. We are doing all the preparations to make it happen! But if we do have to forgo the conference once again\, rest assured that OCEANetwork is here year-around and ready to encourage you and equip you as you homeschool your children. \n\n\n\nSign up for emails from OCEANetwork and we will keep you informed about any updates\, including registration dates!

SUMMARY:Homeschool Outdoor School
DESCRIPTION:Homeschool Outdoor School\nJune 6-10\, 2022 (overnight)\nDrift Creek Camp (outside Lincoln City)\nwww.homeschooloutdoorschool.com\nEmail dbnett10@gmail.com \n\nOutdoor School! For Homeschoolers*\nOur 32nd Year – June 6-10\, 2022\n{Overnight Monday – Friday}\nDrift Creek Camp – outside of Lincoln City\, Oregon (For ages 9-16)\nKids Need Camp!!! \nOutdoor learning sessions vary from year to year. But past classes have included fire building\, outdoor cooking\, compass course\, survival and first aid. Activities vary from year to year but typically have archery\, volleyball\, and field sports. But an added bit of fun this year will be pellet guns and crossbows. This year’s special activity will be a hike to Drift Creek Falls. \n     \nDay classes and recreation events vary each year and are partially dependent on parents who share their teaching or coaching gifts with the group. We couldn’t do this without the participation of a few parents. We move camp from year to year to study different ecosystems and geologic areas of our great northwest. We strive to do different things each year because many kids come back. More details will follow about day classes offered this year. Accommodations: This year we are staying at beautiful Drift Creek Camp nestled in the coast range above Lincoln City. It features a large rustic lodge which is a dormitory and a cafeteria. Meals are prepared for us and also served in the lodge. (Please let us know your dietary needs.)  \nEvening sessions are presented to build faith in the Bible’s teaching of the creation account and flood through compelling science presentations. This year our special speaker is Dr. Thomas Kindell. \nDr. Thomas Kindell is the founder and president of Reasons for Faith Ministries\, Inc.\, a non-profit ministry dedicated to equipping Christian believers to “give every man an answer” for their Biblical faith.  \nFor more on Dr. Kindell’s bio please go to: \nhttp://mail.nwcreation.net/kindell/index.html  \n  \n       \nWe cap off each day with homegrown entertainment around the campfire and a time of worship and devotion. Kids have fun spending the week with new friends\, and so do adults. \nIntellectual struggles are one of the reasons why kids leave the church. They hear evolution nonsense taught everywhere. Then they lose confidence in the Bible. Studies are showing that a proper understanding of the Creation of the world and the Biblical flood of Noah’s day is key to retaining our kids in the faith. COME HEAR GREAT ANSWERS!!! \nMake memories with your kids! PARENTS are strongly encouraged (but are not required) to attend as cabin counselors or teachers. We are always in need of Dads as counselors. \nWe know finances are tight for most\, so we keep the costs as low as possible because we know you and your children will love this camp. It is so good for their social interaction with other homeschoolers that we have made it a “must” to attend with our large family for the past 24 years with no regrets. Now our grand-children are coming. It’s that good! \n$225 for Students\, $30 early bird discount if registered with $50 deposit by March 15th or $15 discount if registered by April 15th\, $165 for adult volunteers. Deadline for registration May 22nd.  \nTo apply go to: www.homeschooloutdoorschool.com  and click on “Apply Now” and follow the instructions Please forward your questions to dbnett10@gmail.com \nLike us on Facebook “HomeSchool Outdoor School” (@homeschoolsciencecamp)  \n*Must have home-schooled the 2021/2022 school year to apply for this year’s camp.  \nCamp Directors Darren and Brenda Nettrouer are the parents of 9 children and 28 grandchildren. They have been involved in this camp since 1998. They live in McMinnville\, Oregon.  \n

SUMMARY:Apple Pie Day Rally

This year\, Apple Pie Day will be a little different\, but it is still a VERY important event for connecting with legislators and encouraging homeschool freedom in Oregon! \nBring your family and invite all your homeschool friends to the Apple Pie Day Rally on Thursday\, May 13! \n– Be inspired\n– Be encouraged\n– Get your questions answered\n– Learn how to get involved! \n\nWhat to Know\n\nPlease bring a pie and/or snack to share. (We can use a lot of them!) Call Jeanette Slagel 503-362-1912 or email jeanetteslagel@gmail.com for more information and to let us know what you’ll bring. We can’t have Apple Pie Day without pies! This year\, we are giving out slices to homeschool families and legislators that visit our Rally!\nConsider volunteering to help make this important event successful. To volunteer\, contact Deborah Butler by texting 503-932-0514\, via FB Messenger\, or emailing butlers9@frontier.com. We need help before the Rally\, during the Rally\, and after the Rally!\nEnjoy the rally activities! We have a program lined up from 10am – 2pm with speakers\, music\, snacks\, a sharing time–and fun!\nBe prepared. In addition to the pie and/or snack to share\, please be sure to bring umbrellas\, chairs\, and a sack lunch for your family.\n\nWhere to Go\nThursday\, May 13\n10 am – 2 pm \nMeet at the Capitol Mall Park\n(Across the street from the Capitol front steps)\nCapitol location: 900 Court St NE\, Salem\, OR 97301 \nMetered Parking:\nThere are 2-hour and 10-hour visitor meters located around the Capitol which are approximately $1.50 per hour (cards or change). \n\n\nWhat is Apple Pie Day?\n\n\n\n\nApple Pie Day happens during legislative years (every other year) and is a time when homeschoolers in Oregon come together to connect with legislators\, sharing home-baked apple pie and information promoting home education. Apple Pie Day is a wonderful way for families to participate in efforts to protect and expand homeschool freedoms in Oregon! \n\nEach legislative session\, new Representatives and Senators fill the halls of the Capitol. These are the men and women who enact laws impacting our families. It is important that they get a chance to meet homeschool families from their district and learn how much you value your freedom to homeschool. \n** Most years\, Apple Pie Day includes taking your family to visit your legislators and delivering an apple pie with information packets. This year we will instead be inviting legislators to visit us at the Apple Pie Day Rally outside in the Capitol Mall\, where they will have a chance to visit with homeschool families. They will also recieve a piece of apple pie and an information packet. They will be delighted to meet your children and you can tell them how much you appreciate the freedom we have to home educate in Oregon!

SUMMARY:Education Conference: The Art of Learning (Gutenberg College)
DESCRIPTION:In the predominant view of education\, the student’s primary job is to consume and store information\, much like a computer. But such a view misses the true nature of learning. Learning is a dynamic process in which a student\, like an apprentice\, slowly builds skills and knowledge\, constantly self-correcting toward mastery and a sound worldview. A key component of the process—frequently overlooked in modern education—is a student’s moral orientation toward truth. In this conference\, we will explore the art of learning through talks and workshops in order to become better learners and better teachers. \nGuest speakers: Nancy Pearcey\, Andrew Pudewa\, Leigh Bortins\, John Seel. \nGutenberg Speakers: Chris Swanson\, Ron Julian
